Deprecation of old publishing framework
As of SDL Web 8, the old publishing framework, in which the implementer had to configure the Content Delivery infrastructure (servers, ports, Web folders and so on) in Content Manager, has become deprecated in favor of Topology Manager.
In the old publishing framework, the destinations to which content should be published are directly configured in Content Manager (in the form of Publication Targets, Target Types and so on). The information is stored in the Content Manager database.
The new publishing framework uses Topology Manager, a new software component with its own database, to decouple this information.
Also note that the use of other protocols than HTTP or HTTPS is deprecated as of SDL Web 8.
