Finish an Activity to indicate that you have finished performing a specific workflow task, such as reviewing content, on an item or items that you previously picked up by Starting an Activity. Only finish an Activity if you are finished with all the items associated with that Activity.
Procedure
- On an editable Web page, start editing by clicking the pencil button in the top right corner.
- Click the workflow dropdown at top right and select Started.
A list of Activities you picked up appears.
- Select the Activity you want to finish.
Details for this Activity appear, including a Finish Activity button.
- Click Finish Activity.
A Finish Activity Message text box and possibly a Next Activity area appear.
- If applicable, select the next activity to be performed. You can also enter a message about the activity you have performed (for example, you can enter review notes).
- By default, the next Activity is assigned to the Group specified in the definition of that Activity. But if you wish, you can override to whom the next Activity gets assigned by selecting either Assign to a User (to assign the next Activity to one specific user, who is a member of the predefined Group or one of its subgroup) or Assign to a Group (to assign it to a Group that is a subgroup of the predefined Group, which means that any User in that Group can pick it up).
The option to assign the next Activity to another Group or User is not available to you if any of the following is true:
- The definition of the next Activity assigns that Activity to a specific User rather than to a Group.
- The next Activity is an Automatic Activity.
- The next Activity is defined as being assigned to whichever user is performing the current Activity.
- Click Done to proceed.
The screen disappears and your Activity is finished.
Results
You have performed the workflow task associated with this assignment, and the item(s) are either assigned to the next user or group of users in the workflow process, or some automated activity (for example, publishing the items) is triggered.
