Improved Cloud support

SDL Web 8.5 brings in further optimizations and new options for running the product in the Cloud, whether you intend to run your SDL Web instance in a Cloud environment hosted by SDL itself, or SDL Web in your own hosted Cloud environment. SDL Web 8.5 also adds support for the Microsoft Azure and Amazon RDS (for SQL Server) Cloud hosting solutions.

SDL Web 8.5, as a platform, no longer requires the MSDTC (Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator) and as a result, can leverage Cloud databases. However, if your implementation of SDL Web 8.5 does require the MSDTC, you cannot use such Cloud databases. Such types of implementations include, but are not limited to:
  • Implementations that still use the Legacy Pack
  • Implementations containing code that interacts with the Core Service and uses transactions
  • Implementations containing extensions that connect to an external data source (say, a database)
