Installing Search on a dedicated machine
To optimize search performance in an enterprise environment, you need to install Search on one or more dedicated machines.
Note: To perform a basic search performance optimization, configure additional allocated Number of threads for indexing in the MMC Snap-in the Search settings > Indexer Service Settings section.

On the Content Manager Server, configure the Search Query Engine—integrated with the Content Manager server—to communicate with the Network Load Balancer, and to communicate to the Master Server (for indexing). - Installing a Search Host Server on a dedicated machine
