Pages and Components

The most important content items in Content Manager are Pages and Components.

Pages
A Page in the Content Manager represents a Web page on the published Web site. Pages contain Component Presentations. A Page combines with a Compound Page Template to create a publishable Web page. The Compound Page Template usually specifies a selection of Component Presentations to be added to the Page, and it also specifies how to visualize the Page.
Components
A Component represents a piece of content on a Web page, such as a news item or a picture. A Component combines with a Compound Component Template to create a Component Presentation, a publishable piece of content. The Compound Component Template can add functionality to the Component, such as whether the Component Presentation should be hidden from certain types of Web visitors. The Compound Component Template also specifies whether and how to visualize each of the various fields of the Component on the Web page.
