Product overview
The product overview section contains system diagrams describing the various software components that are delivered with SDL Web, and the add-on products that plug into the core.
- SDL Web general overview
In its simplest form, SDL Web can be said to consist of a management side and a delivery side. On both sides are multiple servers, databases, and clients and APIs. - Content Manager features
Implement Content Manager features so that end users can create, assemble, and publish content. - Content Manager extension points (APIs)
Content Manager can be accessed through a variety of browser-based and desktop-based user interfaces, as well as through several APIs. - Content Manager clients
Content Manager clients are client-side user applications for creating content, or server-side applications that connect to the Content Manager. Clients connect to the Content Manager through the Core Service, IIS, or WebDAV. - Publishing overview
Publishing is the process of getting content out of the Content Manager and on the Presentation Server. Publishing involves a number of processes, each of which performs a specific task. - Topology Manager overview
Topology Manager forms the bridge between the Content Manager and Content Delivery environments. By decoupling the two environments, it becomes easy to swap out environments on either side, and to separate concerns by specific roles in your organization. - Content Delivery overview
Content Delivery software components enable the deployment and processing of published content. Some Content Delivery software components combine with Content Manager software components to produce an overall feature. - Nonessential product features
Various parts of SDL Web provide specific functionality beyond the product core, and their installation is optional based on business needs. These nonessential product features typically require additional installation, configuration and implementation. Their installation topics are not in the installation section, but rather in the specific implementation section for that feature. - Add-on products
Various add-on products are available that plug into SDL Web. An add-on is a product that is delivered separately from SDL Web and installed on top of the SDL Web platform. For information on how to install these products, refer to the documentation for these products.
