Defining Page template triggers

A page template trigger triggers a Promotion when the user is viewing a particular type of Web page.

Before you begin

A Promotion that uses the page template trigger requires additional implementation: an implementor needs to modify the <tcdl:query> tag to pass the type of Web page a user is viewing in the view attribute.

Procedure

  1. In the slide out navigation pane, select Targeting.

    The Targeting Dashboard appears.

  2. In the Source drop-down menu:
    1. Select a Web site for which you want to manage Promotions. For example, you will typically have a "Staging" Web site and a "Live" Web site:
      • Staging is the internal Web site where Experience Manager is set up for inline editing and testing
      • Live is your external, public-facing Web site
    2. Click the Promotions tab to view the list of Promotions available for the Web site.
A list of Promotions for which you have Manage Promotions rights is displayed.
  3. Open an existing Promotion, or click New to create a Promotion.
  4. Select the Triggers section, then choose the Page template trigger from the drop-down menu:
  5. Select the type of Web page the Promotion should be displayed on:
    • compare—a Web page that displays details of multiple content items for comparison.
    • lister—a Web page that displays a list of content items; each item shows a summary of the content with a link to the entire article.
    • detail—a Web page that displays an entire content item.
    • search—a Web page that displays a summary of content items that match the search term entered with a link to the entire content item.
    • home—a Web page that displays the Home page of the Web site.
    • summary—a Web page that displays a summary of the article (content item) with a link to the entire article.
  6. Click Save when you have finished editing.
