Setting Promotion priority

Drag-and-drop Promotions to a location higher or lower in the Promotion List to change priority.

About this task

The order in which Promotions are displayed in a Promotion List denotes Promotion priority. When several Promotions are returned by a query, Promotion priority dictates which Promotion are displayed first. For example, if a query returns 20 Promotions but you only want to display 3 Promotions, the ones with the highest priority are displayed.

A concrete example is seasonal Promotions, such as Christmas Promotions. In the month December, you would want these to have priority over weekly, monthly and yearly Promotions, so you would drag these higher up the Promotion List to give them a higher priority and ensure this content is displayed first.

Procedure

  1. In the slide out navigation pane, select Targeting.

    The Targeting Dashboard appears.

  2. In the Source drop-down menu:
    1. Select a Web site for which you want to manage Promotions. For example, you will typically have a "Staging" Web site and a "Live" Web site:
      • Staging is the internal Web site where Experience Manager is set up for inline editing and testing
      • Live is your external, public-facing Web site
    2. Click the Promotions tab to view the list of Promotions available for the Web site.
A list of Promotions for which you have Manage Promotions rights is displayed.
  3. Grab the Promotion on the left-hand side and drag-and-drop it to a location higher or lower in the Promotion List to change the priority.
