Upgrading to SDL Web Experience Optimization 8
Read this section if you have a version of SmartTarget installed and you want to upgrade to Experience Optimization 8.

You can upgrade to SDL Web Experience Optimization 8 from the following versions of SmartTarget: - Upgrading Fredhopper
If you are upgrading from SmartTarget 2011 SP2, upgrade Fredhopper itself from 7.1.2 to 7.5.x. Regardless of the SmartTarget version from which you are upgrading, always run the Fredhopper data upgrade tool. - Upgrading Experience Optimization on Content Delivery
Upgrading Experience Optimization on Content Delivery involves a number of different tasks, because the architecture on the Content Delivery side has changed. - Upgrading or migrating Experience Optimization on your Presentation Server
You can upgrade Experience Optimization on the Presentation Server by updating the JAR files and DLLs in the Web application serving your public-facing Web sites, or if your SDL Web implementation uses the RESTful API, you can migrate Experience Optimization on the Presentation Server from an in-process implementation to a RESTful one as well. In either case, you need to upgrade your configuration file, smarttarget_conf.xml, using the configuration upgrade tool. - Upgrading Experience Optimization on Content Manager
Upgrading Experience Optimization on Content Manager requires an upgraded system running SDL Web version 8. The upgrade instruction for SDL Web 8 tell you to uninstall all add-ons, including SmartTarget. Performing the upgrade to Experience Optimization involves updating resources on the Content Manager.
