New in SDL WorldServer 10.4.4

This chapter describes new features and enhancements introduced in SDL WorldServer 10.4.4 .

Improvements and changes in SDL WorldServer 10.4.4 occur in the areas described further in this document.

WorldServer documentation available online
As of this release, the entire set of documentation distributed with WorldServer 10.4.4 is available online, at the SDL Documentation Portal. This means you can access our Documentation Portal from anywhere, you can provide us with feedback and you can even print the topics of your interest to hard copy or PDF and save them locally for later use.
This radical change is part of our continuous effort to simplify our documentation and it has brought about changes in the way the WorldServer documentation is structured. Previous guides have been integrated into a single, more logical publication and renamed accordingly. See below the new denominations of the former PDF deliverables, now renamed into master topics.

In addition, the WorldServer Online Help has been revamped and now has a new look-and-feel.
Upgrade to the latest technologies
Part of our constant effort to bring WorldServer up to date with the latest technologies, this release of WorldServer supports Tomcat 7.0.63. This upgrade resolved a WorldServer connectivity issue which occasionally caused the UI to stop responding. In addition, the default Tomcat configuration is set for compression for both http and https protocols, so no other WorldServer configuration of this capability is needed. The .NET Framework version supported by FTS is now 4.5.2. With 10.4.4, the Oracle version supported by WorldServer is 12c. Also, note that the FTS installation requires the vcredist_x86.exe version of the C++ 2013 redistributable package, available here.
Browser Workbench enhancements
A performance issue has been implemented for Browser Workbench, which now operates the TM and TD matches as background processes to avoid slowing down the system. Also, the UI is no longer refreshed every time a comment is added, updated or removed and another speed performance issue with BrowserWorkbench has been fixed.
FTS Server developments
The "Access denied on the file as it is opened and locked by another application" exception that appeared on projects with multiple languages for the same file has been fixed. The new log configuration file LogHostProcess.config allows our users to change dynamically the logging levels without the need of restarting the FTS server. Nevertheless, we still support the old way of defining logging settings. Also, there is a new log settings file, namely LogLaunched.config, doing the same for the FTS Launcher logs. A Microsoft Word 2003 asset is properly segmented when used in a Project Group with multiple languages. The distribution package for SDL WorldServer 10.4.4 includes an additional installer called SDLCustomCultures.msi. If you need to support one or more of the cultures listed in KB article 8740, then you should run this on the server (or servers) where the FTS is installed. Not all of these cultures have equivalent locales in WorldServer, so you will need to map an existing locale to one of these as described in the section dedicated to the exchange.properties file, in the Administrating WorldServer section of this publication. These cultures are optional and only need to be installed if you need to support round-tripping FTS content between Studio and WorldServer.
SDL Trados Studio compatibility enhancements
A number of filters have been added to match the advancements on the SDL Trados Studio File Types:
  • Microsoft Word 2007-2016 Studio File Type. The default Word filter remains unchanged, the new filter (added because it offers support for Google DOCX) is in Beta version until the next WorldServer release.
  • Bilingual Excel
  • Portable Objects
  • Subrip
  • New XML configuration: MadCap
  • New XML configuration: Authorit
In addition, an issue related to tags and text shifted in source segment when the WSXZ kit opened in the Studio Editor compared to its representation in Browser Workbench has been fixed. An issue with the WSXZ translation package uploads from Studio which blocked the background queue has been fixed. Also, an issue occurred when importing filter samples, as well as custom and legacy filters has been resolved.
Keeping track of your existing WorldServer installation and applied hotfixes
From now on, you can easily see all the deployed hotfixes and installations on a specific system in an easy-to-use table format, provided you are a WorldServer administrator or you have been given rights in this respect. Go to Management > Administration > System Information for detailed information on the:
  • Server name
  • WorldSystem version the hotfix is applied to
  • Hotfix version
  • Description of the hotfix
  • Installation date
  • Changes performed.

This table retrieves information from an SDL hosted server, except for the hotfix information, which is managed by your WorldServer administrator.

Miscellaneous improvements
Other fixes for this release include:
  • With 10.4.4 a web services client now has the possibility to start project tasks after the project's creation via a new web services method: a new parameter was added in SDK , namely startTasks, and the startTasks method was added to start tasks after creating the project.
  • SDL BeGlobal Adapter now correctly accounts for all the jobs' result statuses.
  • The assignation of tasks created with the new user's locales and workflow roles on an Oracle database is now a background process, thus saving system resources.
  • Previous storage space issues caused by FTS temporary files have been fixed by introducing a new configurable cleaner, which can be set to run daily or weekly.
  • XML assets now preserve their docID at the end of the URL displayed in the Tasks list or when viewing the assets in the Explorer tab.
  • The Cost Model list is now displayed in alphabetical order.
  • A project only starts after setting up the attributes.
  • The attributes of your choice are no longer overwritten when running the Set Attribute Automatic Action in parallel on tasks included in the same project.
  • A German localization issue of strings_de.properties has been fixed.
  • A Microsoft Word 2003 asset is properly segmented when used in a Project Group in multiple languages.
  • LiveTM performance has been improved.
  • You can now configure WorldServer to send e-mails to users when a job is successful or fails. Previous settings enabled users to receive e-mails only when tasks or issues were assigned.
  • Translation kits are successfully exported when MultiTerm content has been configured.
  • A performance issue of the View tasks assigned to me functionality on large Oracle 11 databases has been fixed.
  • The Java applets security certificate has been updated.
  • An issue with the Projects view which became unavailable when adding the Source Locale column has been fixed.
  • Concordance search speed has been improved.
  • The speed of "Set Translation Status (LIB)" Automatic Action on Live TM systems has been improved.
  • You can now configure the general.properties file to log and close idle or leaking connections.
