About the Microsoft Word 2000-2003 File Type

By default, the Word 2000-2003 File Type recognizes the .doc, . dot, and .rtf file extensions.

The Microsoft Word 2000-2003 File Type presents the text defined by the settings for translation. The file type uses a series of configuration pages for these settings:

  • Non-translatable footnotes — Specify what footnote text to exclude from translation.
  • Non-translatable styles — Specify what text to exclude from translation, based on the text style
  • Non-translatable texts — Specify text to exclude from translation.
  • Order of text boxes — Specify the order in which text boxes are handled.
  • Other Settings — Choose miscellaneous options, such as whether to process document properties. SDL Trados Studio cannot open a Word document that has Word's Track Changes enabled, but these settings include an option to allow SDL Trados Studio to open a document with unaccepted changes if Word's Track Changes is disabled.

You can configure some aspects of SDL file types in Management > Linguistic Tool Setup > File Types.
