Adding custom attributes

About this task

Administrators can share custom attributes across several object types, such as projects and quotes.

A custom attribute is a user-defined property or a WorldServer object used to expand the core definitions of that object.

For example, if client managers want to track projects and quotes by P.O. numbers, they can add a custom attribute, which will require users to enter a purchase order number when creating a quote or project.

Procedure

  1. To add a custom attribute, go to Management > Administration > Customization.
  2. Select Attributes from the Custom Components list and click Add.
  3. Using the purchase order example, select Quotes and Projects from the Applicable Object Types area in the Add Custom Attributes Component window.
  4. Enter an internal and external name for the P.O. Number attribute. For example, enter PONumber (internal) and Purchase Order Number (external).
  5. Select the Required flag, which requires users to enter a purchase order number before completing the quote or project.
  6. Select an appropriate Attribute Type, for example, Integer.
  7. Leave the Default Value blank.
  8. Enter an optional description.
  9. Click OK.

What to do next

When TransPort users create a project or quote, the Purchase Order section displays under the Enter additional quote/project information area as a required field. TransPort users must enter a P.O. number before they can complete the process successfully.
