Assessing translation quality in SDL Online Editor

You can assess the quality of a translation in two ways: either at a segment level or inline, in the actual text of the translation. In both cases, you need to specify an error type and severity from the WorldServer quality model applied to the project to which the task belongs.

Procedure

  1. Open the appropriate asset in SDL Online Editor.
  2. On the Assessment tab, in the Translation Quality Assessment group, click Show TQA.
  3. Add a segment-level assessment by doing the following:
    1. Place your cursor in the target area of the segment that you want to assess.
    2. On the Assessment tab, in the Translation Quality Assessment group, click Assess Quality.
    3. In the Quality Assessment pane, place your cursor in the Add quality assessment box, and then, if necessary, type a comment.
    4. In the Category list, select the appropriate error type from the WorldServer quality model applied to your project.
    5. In the Severity list, select the appropriate error severity from the WorldServer quality model applied to your project.
    6. Click Add.
  4. Add an inline assessment by doing the following:
    1. On the Assessment tab, in the Translation Quality Assessment group, click Assess Quality.
    2. Make the required changes in the text of the translation.
You can make changes such as:
      • Adding text to complete a translation. Place your cursor in the appropriate position, and then type the appropriate text.
      • Adding text over a translation. Select the text you want to replace, and then type the appropriate text to replace it with.
      • Inserting special characters where your cursor is placed.
      • Copying tags or placeholders from the source text. Select the text to which you want to add tags or placeholders, and then click the appropriate tag or placeholder from the source text.
      • Cutting or pasting text.
      • Deleting characters, words, selected text, or even the text in multiple segments.
    6. Click Update.

What to do next

To save the feedback to WorldServer and have it displayed in Browser Workbench, complete the step and make sure that the task goes through the Save Online Asset step. In Browser Workbench, quality assessments are displayed as placeholders and you cannot modify them.
