Creating New Linkage

Before you begin

To modify linkage or create new linkage, work in the Linkage Editor.

To create new linkage, follow these steps:

Procedure

  1. In WorldServer, go to Management > Business Rule Linkage > Linkage.
  2. Click Launch Linkage Editor.
The Linkage Editor opens. The source content is displayed on the left and the target content is displayed on the right, as illustrated in the following figure.

Figure 1. Creating a new linkage

  3. From the Source Locale list, select the source locale (for example, English-US).
  4. From the Target Locale list, select the target locale (for example, German-Germany).
  5. On the left pane, navigate to and select the top level of the folders and assets that are in the source locale (for example, en_US).
The folder or asset must be highlighted and must not be disabled. If it is not highlighted, then either the locale or the association between the locale and folder was not set up correctly.
  6. On the right pane, navigate to and select the top level of the folders and assets in the target locale (for example, de_DE).
The folder or asset must be highlighted and must not be disabled. If it is not highlighted, then either the locale or the association between the locale and folder was not set up correctly.
  7. Create a link by dragging a line from the highlighted source folder to the highlighted target folder.
For existing links, you can perform these actions:
    • Delete it – Highlight the link and click Link > Delete.
    • Disable it temporarily – Highlight the link and click Link > Disabled. This feature is useful when you need to temporarily turn off a link for testing purposes.
  8. Repeat the procedure for every source and target you want to link.
  9. Click File > Save.
  10. Close the Linkage Editor.

What to do next

A given target asset or folder can have only one incoming link per source locale. This ensures that target assets aren’t overwritten by translations from multiple source assets.

Similarly, a given source asset or folder can have only one outgoing link, per locale, to a target asset or folder.
