Managing Assets in WorldServer Explorer
Management of assets in Explorer is distinct from other tasks; managing assets is key to ensuring that the correct content is available and that other users can complete their tasks efficiently.
Management encompasses basic tasks such as creating, copying and deleting assets, uploading and downloading assets, and locking and unlocking assets.
Note: When you upload or download assets in WorldServer Explorer, you have two options:
- Uploading/downloading a single file.
- Uploading/downloading a ZIP file.
WorldServer Explorer uses the .zip compression format exclusively for uploads and downloads, and not any other compression format. This restriction does not apply to importing or exporting assets in translation kits.
- Creating a new folder or asset
You can create new folders or assets from the WorldServer Explorer. For example, if you need to create a new target folder or asset for a file system mount, follow the procedure below. - Deleting an asset
You can delete folders or assets from the WorldServer Explorer if they are no longer needed. When you delete folders or assets from the Explorer, they are also deleted from the place where they are stored, for example, from the file system. - Copying assets
In the WorldServer Explorer you can copy folders or assets from one location to another, very useful when you want to copy, for example, the directory structure of the top-level source folders to establish target folders. - Downloading assets
Downloading assets, a single file or a set of files, means copying them from WorldServer to your file system. For example, if your final translated files are stored offline, you can download assets to your system in a zip archive when the translation is complete. - Uploading folders or assets
Uploading an asset means copying the asset from your file system to WorldServer. For example, if you have downloaded an asset and have worked on it offline, you can upload the file to WorldServer when you have finished editing it. You can upload a single file or a set of files. If you upload a set of files, place them in a zip archive before uploading. During upload, the files will be extracted from the zip archive. - Locking a folder or asset
You can lock folders or assets to prevent other users from changing them until you unlock them again. An asset is locked automatically when you save changes in the Translation Workbench or Freeform Editor or when you export the asset. - Unlocking folders or assets
Locked folders or assets must be unlocked by the same user who locked them (or by the administrator) before other users can perform changes to them. Assets are automatically unlocked when assets or tasks are imported. - Clear Segment Cache
