Workflows and Assigning Tasks
A workflow defines a standard, repeatable process for translating and handling content. An individual workflow consists of steps, and transitions that link the steps together, imposing an order in which the steps occur.
While it is possible to assign tasks directly in WorldServer, using workflows – and a task results from a step in a workflow – provides for consistency and thoroughness in the process. Tasks are less likely to be lost or untracked if they are assigned as part of a workflow.
There are times when it is appropriate to assign a task outside of a workflow. A one-time event, for example, might be a time to assign a task directly. However, consider carefully if the task might need to be folded into a workflow at a later time, and if the task truly is outside the scope of available processes.
For more information on workflows, see the WorldServer User Guide, specifically the chapter on using workflows to manage processes.
