Working with Binary Content

Not all content to be translated can be segmented. For some binary files, such as images containing text, you might want to translate the text, but you cannot segment the binary file. WorldServer includes a Binary File Type for working with such files. If the file type that is associated with the content is the Binary File Type, the content is marked as translatable, but it is "segmented" as a single binary segment. A workflow can send it to the translator who would need to use the appropriate tools to prepare a translated file in that format and then upload the target file to WorldServer.

Be aware that MIME types can be defined as “Not Translatable,” and this tagging can be detected as “not segmentable” in workflows. You can use this MIME type tag in a workflow with a standard automatic action that detects whether an asset is segmentable (for example, Segment Asset) to sort out the binary file types you are localizing from the ones you are not, based on whether the MIME type specified using the Binary File Type or “Not translatable.”
