Changing Task Priority in a Project

When a project is created, its tasks are assigned a priority by default. With appropriate permissions, you can change the priority of all the tasks within a project from the Project List, or of individual tasks from the Task List.

Priority is used to determine the order in which the tasks are processed. Priority 1 tasks are looked at before priority 2 tasks, and so on.

Different bands are created and written to the configuration file. The lower and upper limits of a band specify the number of tasks that a project must have so that the project tasks are assigned a particular priority. For example, the following default information is in the configuration file regarding tasks bands: 10, 20, 50, 100. This means that the existing bands are 0-9, 10-19, 20-49, 50-99, 100 – no upper limit. There are as many priorities as there are bands, and these are by default 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Priority 1 corresponds to the band 0-9, priority 2 to the band 10-19, so on. Higher priorities have lower absolute numbers; therefore tasks with priority 1 are the highest priority and will be processed first. If a project has eight tasks, all of its tasks will have priority 1. If a project has 21 tasks, all of its tasks will have priority 3.

From the Project View, you can select a project and click Change Priority. This changes the priorities for all the tasks related to that project. Alternatively, from the Task View, you can select More Options > Task Options > Change Priority. This modifies the priority on the selected task only.
