You can export translation kits from your Project or Task(s) list, depending on the requirements of your environment. When you have finished translating Assets offline with a desktop translation tool such as SDL Trados Studio 2019, you must import the completed translation kit back into WorldServer.
Procedure
- Go to the Projects page. To access the Projects page, you can either go to and then click the number of projects on the top right of the screen, or you can go to on the slide-out navigation pane.
- Expand the desired Project Group and then select one or more Project(s). To automatically see all the Tasks within the Project Group or Project, click the Project Group/Locale name.
The Tasks page is displayed.
- On the Tasks page, select one or more Tasks and then click Export on the ribbon.
The Create Translation Kit for Tasks dialog box is displayed.
- Select the format in which to export the Tasks:
- Regulator Bundle — A ZIP file containing a number of .docx files for review
- WSXZ — WorldServer WSXZ file for use with SDL Trados Studio 2019 (recommended) or earlier1
- Bilingual DOCX — An external review document in Bilingual DOCX format
- XLIFF — A ZIP file containing a file in XML Localization Interchange File Format
- XLZ — WorldServer XLZ file for use with WorldServer Desktop Workbench 8.0 or later
Note: The formats that appear are controlled by the settings in the exchange.properties file. If the format you require is not shown, contact your WorldServer administrator. Also, as of this release, the .TTX format is not available for kit export.
- In the TM Information section, select whether you want to export the previously configured project TMs, TM groups along with their penalties and priority in a group or the link to the TM(s).
- Select Backward compatible package to enable your package to be compatible with SDL Trados Studio versions released earlier than 2014.
- Specify whether to allow split and merge, segments to exclude, a translation memory attribute filter and a terminology database attribute filter, if necessary.
- When finished, click Export.
If you create a translation kit that contains TD attribute names of more than 50 characters, WorldServer will warn you that the attribute name will be truncated.
Note:
- When you export an updated WSXZ translation kit from WorldServer 11.1 or later and open it again in SDL Trados Studio 2017 (Cumulative Update 5 or later), the existing project is updated in Studio. In previous versions, Studio would create a new project each time you imported the same translation kit. This improvement aligns better the concepts of project group in WorldServer and project in Studio.
- Subsequent downloads from the same WorldServer project group with new or updated task files are merged or added to the existing Studio project. Translation memories, terminology databases, and project and task attributes are also updated or added to the same Studio project, while attribute names are prefixed with their corresponding target locale for clarity.
Important: Before you export the WSXZ project, make sure your administrator adds the following configuration to the
Sdl.WorldServer.FileTypeSupport.Server.HostProcess.exe.config file, under
appSettings:
<add key="StudioGuidGeneration" value="true"/>
- You can only export Regulator Bundles for projects that use File System AIS mounts. Also, you can only export bundles which are in the Review stage.
- Only .DOCX files segmented with the Microsoft Word 2007-2013 File Type can be exported in a Regulator Bundle review package. This feature does not support Microsoft Word 2003 (or earlier) files, even if created with the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack installed. Reviewers have to use Microsoft Office Word 2007 or higher.
Important: When you export a translation kit that contains the tasks in a project, WorldServer automatically adds certain information (the project ID and the target locale) to the name of the kit. On the other hand, SDL Trados Studio has a 50-character limitation on project names. Therefore, if you export a translation kit whose name exceeds 50 characters and import it into SDL Trados Studio, Studio will truncate its name and add other characters, according to the following example:
- Name of the project in WorldServer: Trados_Studio_PhaseII_Test_DITA
- Name of the translation kit exported from WorldServer: tasks_Trados_Studio_PhaseII_Test_DITA_43012_ru_RU_xliff.wsxz
- Name of the project in SDL Trados Studio: Trados_Studio_PhaseII_Test_D_ru_RU_20150212_110347
1 Translation quality assessments from
SDL Online Editor and
Browser Workbench are included in WSXZ translation kits starting with
WorldServer 11.3. Therefore, the error types and severities configured in your project's quality model in
WorldServer are converted automatically to categories and severities when you open the translation kit in
SDL Trados Studio. The errors reported in
SDL Online Editor and in
Browser Workbench are also displayed in
SDL Trados Studio. For TQA profiles to be included in translation kits, make sure that:
- All the tasks that you want to export are in the Review step or in another step that has the Review step type configured in the workflow.
- The project type has a corresponding quality model.
