This release continues the series of updates and improvements following the initial release.

Trados Enterprise

Folder Inheritance

We have now enabled SDL Language Cloud to make use of resources from folders higher in the hierarchy, which enables you, for example, to use a central TM across multiple customers. Other use cases involve the use of a central File Type Configuration, so you only have to make changes once.

Parent inheritance means that child folders inherit resources from their parent folder (or grandparent folder or higher above). In brief, inheritance ensures that:
  • Users can see and use the resources stored in the folders above them (parent or grandparent folders).
  • Users cannot see and cannot use the resources stored in brother folders or uncle folders.
There is an important difference between the way projects and project resources (all the elements needed to create a project: users, project templates, workflows, linguistic resources and so on) are accessed based on inheritance:
  • As user, you can access the project resources from:
    • Your current folder (see and use)
    • Your parent folder and above (see and use)
  • As user, you can access the projects from:
    • Your current folder (see and manage)
    • Your child folders (see and manage)

As part of this feature, you can also structure your users and groups in folders to reduce visibility and use sub-groups for work assignments.

You can also set certain customers as "Private" optionally reducing visibility from below.

As part of the above changes, we removed the Shared Resources folder. To ensure resources can be accessed across several customer folders, save your resource in a parent folder.

TM Maintenance
You can now edit the content of Translation Memories (TMs) directly from your browser. To do so, go to Resources->Translation Memories->Select a TM from the list of languages. The TM Maintenance Editor opens up as a new browser tab.
Enhanced Vendor functionality
We have enhanced the Vendor functionality with two main aspects:
  • You can now optionally define who is assigned to the Vendor Quote Review task and who is assigned to the actual work tasks (Translation, Review, Implement Customer Review, DTP) when you configure the Vendor Order Template.
  • In addition to performing localization work via offline packages, translators and linguistic reviewers can now perform localization activities in either Online Editor or SDL Trados Studio at a click of a button.
Real-time Microsoft Word preview
When translating or reviewing content stored in Microsoft Word format, via SDL Online Editor, you can preview your changes in real time.
Miscellaneous
  • You can copy Project Templates, which enables you to duplicate Project Templates and place them in a different folder.
  • You can now delete the default groups provisioned by the system in the Root folder (with the exception of the Administrator group).
  • Several improvements where made to secure better access to SDL Language Cloud from mainland China.

SDL Customer Portal

New features and enhancements
  • Project Drafts can now be used during project creation to store common settings such as language selection and custom fields. Project Drafts can help significantly accelerate and simplify the project creation process, whilst also reducing the risk of human error.
  • Additional cost information is now available from the Project Details page.
  • For custom Picklist fields, we have increased the number of values displayed by default from 20 to 40.
Issues fixed
We have addressed an issue that was preventing some customers from retrieving information via the oData feed.
