Calculating and overriding the Pass/Fail result

When you set up a Pass/Fail threshold for your Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) configuration, Trados Studio calculates the penalty points corresponding to each TQA added to the file.

To set up the Pass/Fail threshold:

  • For the active project, go to the Home tab, select Project Settings , and in the Translation Quality Assessment tree, select Scoring.
  • For all future projects, go to File > Options > Translation Quality Assessment > Scoring.

Calculating the Fail score

When the Pass/Fail threshold is crossed, the TQA icon on the status bar changes to a crossed out pen: . This shows that translation does not meet the quality level set in the TQA configuration.

The formula that Trados Studio uses for calculating the fail threshold is:

Points set for the Pass/Fain Threshold x words/characters in the document per words/characters set for the Pass/Fail Threshold

For example, if you specify a limit of 5 points per each 10 words, Trados Studio sets a threshold of 50 points for a file containing 100 words.

Overriding the Pass/Fail result

When you do the overall evaluation of the document, you can change the Pass/Fail result if you consider that the TQA result does not reflect the actual quality of the document.

After adding TQAs to a document open for review or sign-off, click Home tab > Complete Review or Complete Sign-off. Trados Studio displays the Complete Review/Complete Sign-off dialog with an overview of all TQAs in the file. The chart displays reported severities on the y-axis and number of reported translation quality items sorted by their category and subcategory on the x-axis. Click the chart to enlarge it.

You can make an overall evaluation of the document in the Evaluation Comment text area.

The Complete Review dialog allows you to override the Pass/Fail result that Studio calculated automatically based on the TQA configuration available for your project.

You can also specify the type of document that you are reviewing or signing off and add a general evaluation comment. These details are available when you generate a Translation Quality Assessment report for the current document.
