Adding termbase entries with review

You can add new terms to an MultiTerm termbase directly from your active file open in the Editor view of Trados Studio. You can only add terms to the active termbase. The procedure described below is only valid for the default termbase layout.

About this task

Add a term with review when you want to check the new term and the available termbase fields before manually saving the new entry.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Projects view and select the project you want to work on.
  2. Go to the Files view and double-click the file you want to work on.
  3. In the Editor window, select the source language term and then do one of the following:
    • If you have already created a translation for the term in the target segment, select the term translation in the target segment in Editor window. On the Home tab, select Add New Term. This displays the new termbase entry in the Termbase Viewer window. The new entry contains the source term and the term translation.
    • If you have not yet created a translation for the term, select the source language term and, on the Home tab, select Add New Term. This displays the new termbase entry in the Termbase Viewer window. The new entry contains the source term and the target term fields are available for editing.
  4. Review the new entry in the Termbase Viewer window. To edit the termbase entry, do one of the following:
    • If you want to edit the contents of a field, select the field to open it for editing. Make the required change and confirm it.
    • If you want to add a field that is not currently displayed:
      • To the whole termbase entry, select Add field on the bar at the top of the entry.
      • To one of the languages, select Add field under the language.
      • To one of the terms, select Add field under the term.
Choose a field from the list of the fields which can be added to that termbase level. The selected field is added and you can open it for editing.
  5. (Optional) If the selected term already exists in the termbase, a prompt is displayed asking you if you want to edit the existing termbase entry:
    • Select Yes to open the existing entry in edit mode in the Termbase Viewer window.
    • Select No to create a duplicate entry in the Termbase Viewer window.
    • Select Cancel to not create a new entry or open the existing entry.
  6. When you have finished editing the entry, select Save this Entry. The new entry is saved to the termbase and displayed in the entry pane.
