Auto-substitution > Numbers and currency
The Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Auto-substitution > Numbers and currency settings determine the separators used when auto-localizing numbers and currency amounts. For currency, it also dictates where to place the currency symbol in the target language.
These settings are only available on the language pair level, since the numbers and currencies format is target language-specific.
These settings appear in multiple dialogs in Trados Studio.
Customize the options below to decide what and how separators are used for numbers and currency during translation. For example, you could choose that $1,000 is auto-localized to 1.000$.

For TM matches, copy the TM format | Trados Studio looks in your project's TM to check what format you have previously used for translating segments that contained a similar number or currency amount. Whenever it finds a TM match for the current segment, Trados Studio inserts it into the target and automatically substitutes the number or currency amount using the same localization format as in the TM match. This ensures a consistent translation style throughout your TM units as new values for numbers and currency amounts are localized with the same format as in the TU that was matched. When this option is disabled, or no matches are available for the current segment, Trados Studio uses the number and currency formats that you have selected under Project Settings > Language Pairs > [your language pair] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Auto-substitution > Numbers and currency. The formats available here include the default localization formats for the target language and any custom formats you have set in the Language Resource settings of your TM. You can check these under Translation Memory Settings > Language Resources > Numbers. |
Same placement as in the TM | Trados Studio looks in your project's TM to check where the currency symbol was placed in previously translated segments that contained a currency amount. Whenever a TM match is available for the current segment, Trados Studio inserts the currency symbol before or after the currency amount, as it is placed in the identified TM match. This ensures a consistent translation style throughout your TM units. When no matches are available for the current segment, the default symbol placement of the target language is used instead. |
