Automated translation
Automated translation is translation performed by computer software. The application that provides the automated translation is installed on a server and is accessed in a similar way to a server-based translation memory (TM).
Trados Studio also automatically translates some types of placeables if they occur as the only content in a segment and there is no TM match. For example, number only segments may be automatically translated to the target segment.
If you have an automated translation provider set up, when you place your cursor in a segment in the Editor window and there is no 100% or fuzzy match available for a segment in the TM, the system will contact the automated translation server and provide an automated translation for the segment. The automated translation is automatically inserted into the segment and you can then further edit the translation text. There are also translation providers that can learn from your post-editing and serve you better matches for future translations. Segments with an automated translation are signaled with a specific blue AT icon in the segment status column.
When results are returned from an automated translation service, the name of the translation provider is displayed at the bottom of the Translation Results window.
Automated translation providers
Trados Studio can connect to Language Weaver via your cloud account to access Neural Machine Translation (NMT) Models. You can access many other Automated Translation providers, including DeepL and Machine Translation Edge from the RWS AppStore.
To find and install new AT providers, go to the Add-ins tab >RWS AppStore and seach for apps in the Automated translation category.
Automated translation and batch translation
The automated translation feature is automatically used during pre-translation is you have a Machine Translation provider enabled for your project. This enables you to leverage as much content as possible before starting to work on your files, but may affect your Machine Translation quotas. Automated translation during pre-translation is disabled if your Machine Translation provider is an NTM engine.
To change your settings for automated translation during pre-translation, go to Project Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > [your language pair] > Batch Processing > Pre-translate Files > When no match is found. To enable/disable automated translation for all future projects, change this setting under All Language Pairs instead.
