Benefits of Track Changes in the source

Tracked changes in the original source file are displayed in the source segments when the file is opened for translation in Trados Studio. These tracked changes cannot be accepted or rejected in Trados Studio. If you make any further changes to the source in Trados Studio, these changes cannot be tracked.

Track Changes usage in Regulated Industries

This is useful for regulated industries to ensure that tracked changes in the source are reflected in the target as accurately as possible. To do this, turn on Track Changes when making the edits to the target translation. This ensures that the tracked changes directly map to the source tracked changes.

Inspect Track Changes at a glance before starting work

This is useful if you are a translator and you want to assess the quantity of tracked changes to find out what has changed before starting work on the translation. To do this, use a display filter in the Editor and choose to only display the segments that contain tracked changes in source.

Should the file be translated as Is

This is useful if you are a translator or CAT specialist and you want to determine if a file containing tracked changes should be:

  • Translated as is in Trados Studio with tracked changes in the source. You might want to do this if the file has only very few tracked changes.
  • Opened in Word beforehand where you can accept the changes in the source before opening it in Trados Studio to translate. You might want to do this if the file has too many tracked changes to be useful for translation.
