Editing segmentation rules

You can edit segmentation rules: in a language resource template, or in a translation memory (TM), or in the TM you are creating.

Procedure

  1. Display the Segmentation Rules dialog:
    If Then
    You are currently completing the New Translation Memory or New Server-based Translation Memory wizard and want to create a new segmentation rule for this TM.On the Language Resources page of the wizard, select Segmentation Rules and select Edit.
    You are currently completing the New Server-based Translation Memory wizard and have applied a language resource template and now want to create a new segmentation rule for this TM.On the Language Resources page of the wizard, select Edit next to the Template box, select Segmentation Rules, and then select Edit.
    You want to add the rule to a file-based language resource template.In the Translation Memories view select the template from the navigation tree, and then go to File > Settings from the menu bar. In the Language Resource Template Settings dialog, select Segmentation Rules, and then select Edit.
    You want to add the rule to a TM.In the Translation Memories view, select the TM from the navigation tree, and then on the Home tab, in the Tasks group, select Settings from the Ribbon. In the Translation Memory Settings dialog, select Language Resources from the navigation tree. In the right-hand pane, select Segmentation Rules, and then select Edit.
  2. In the Segmentation Rules dialog, select the rule to be edited and select Edit.
  3. In the Add/Edit Segmentation Rule dialog, create the new rule by completing the Before break, Break character and After break boxes.
    If Then
    You can create the rule from the available values in the drop-down lists.Select the values.
    You want to enter the values.Type the values in the boxes.
    You want to enter the values as simple regular expressions.Type the values in the boxes and select the Regular Expression checkbox or boxes.
    You want to create complex regular expression that also combine the before break and break character conditions.Select Advanced View and complete the boxes in this view.
  4. Add or edit exceptions to the rule.
    If Then
    There are no exceptions to the rule.Go to step 5.
    You want to create an exception to the rule.Select Add next to the Exceptions box. In the Add Rule Exception dialog, select OK. The exception is added to the Exceptions box.
  5. Select OK to save the updated rule.
