File> Options> Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Search
Use the settings to specify the settings for the translation memory (TM) lookup and concordance searching.
These settings appear in multiple dialogs in Trados Studio.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
Translation (These options affect translation memory lookups.) | |
Minimum match value | This is the degree of match that must exist between a source document segment and a TM segment in order for the segment translation to be offered as a match. The default is 70%, but you can set a value between 30% and 100%. The selected value is inclusive, meaning that matches with your exact selected value are also included in translation results. |
Maximum number of hits | This is the maximum number of TM matches that will be returned from a lookup. For example, if this limit is set at five, only the best five matches are displayed for consideration. The default is 5, but you can set a value between 1 and 50. |
Search for fuzzy matches even if exact matches found | Select this box if you want to display fuzzy matches as well as exact matches. |
Search both project and main translation memories | If you select this option, a lookup is performed in both the main TM (if available) as well as the project TM. This ensures that any new content that has been added to the main TM or content that was not relevant at the time when the project TM was created, is still available for use during translation. |
Look up segments in MT even if a TM match has been found | By default (as long as the machine translation provider is not at the top of the list of providers - see note below), Trados Studio resorts to machine translation engines only if your selected TMs do not generate any results. This saves costs on your machine translation subscriptions. However, you can enable this option if you want to receive both TMs and machine translation results instead. This means that for each segment, Trados Studio displays the best match found in your TMs, then searches further for additional matches in all your selected MT providers. |
Fragment Matching Options for upLIFT These options control how upLIFT fragment matching provide translation suggestions in the Editor. By default, Trados Studio uses the upLIFT technology to match translations against whole TU fragments. Select TU fragment to get matches from TU fragments. | |
| Minimum words for a match | Set the number of words needed to get a match against whole TUs or TU fragments. For character-based languages like Chinese or Japanese, this is the minimum number of characters, not words. |
| Minimum significant words for a match | Set the number of significant words needed to get a match against whole TUs or TU fragments. Significant words are the ones that matter most for a correct match. Words like the or a are not significant. For character-based languages like Chinese or Japanese, this is the minimum number of characters, not words. |
Concordance These values are applied to Concordance searches. | |
Minimum match value | This is the degree of match that must exist between the search text you have selected and the matching text fragment in a TM segment in order for the translation to be offered as a match. The default is 70%, but you can set a value between 30% and 100%. |
Maximum number of hits | This is the maximum number of matches that will be returned from a concordance search. For example, if this limit is set at five, only the best five matches are displayed for consideration. The default is 30, but you can set a value between 1 and 99. |
Search Options | This option specifies where Trados Studio searches for TM matches and how it sorts the results. |
Show most recent translations first | When this option is enabled, Trados Studio sorts the results of your concordance and TM searches by most relevant new entries. This means that after sorting the TM results by percentage match value, Trados Studio then displays these results starting with the latest TUs edited or added to the TM. Disable this option to sort the TM results by most relevant oldest entries instead. |
Show best matches from all providers | Choose this option to the search through all translation sources (TMs and automated translation servers) for the best matches. |
Only show matches from first translation source in list that returns matches | Choose this option to stop the search at the first translation source (TMs and automated translation servers) that returns matches. |
