Importing settings for file types from Studio 2009

You can import file type settings from Trados Studio 2009 SP1 and SP2 or file types settings that have been exported from Trados Studio 2009 SP3.

Before you begin

You need one or more files consisting of file type settings.
  • For Trados Studio 2009, the settings for a file type are held in a file that has the *.sdlfiletype extension.
  • For Trados Studio 2009 SP3, you also need the settings file that is generated when you export the settings from Trados Studio. To get this file, go to File > Options > File Types, and in the File Types pane (where there is a list of file types), select the appropriate file type. Then, select Export Settings, which will create an *.sdlftsettings file for that file type.

About this task

Settings for each file type for SP1 and SP2 are held in a file with the *.sdlfiletype extension. In SP3, the settings for each file type are shared between two files: the definitions for a file type are held in a file with the *.sdlfiletype extension (that is, the same format that is used in SP1 and SP2), but the settings for the file type are held in a file with the *.sdlftsettings extension (that is, the same format that is used in Trados Studio 2011 - 2015).

Procedure

  1. Decide for which projects you want to configure file type settings:
    • For the active project, go to the Projects view, and on the Home tab, select Project Settings.
    • For all future projects, go to File > Options.
  2. Select File Types from the navigation tree on the left.
  3. Select Import Settings.
  4. Select the drop-down box of settings types and choose Studio 2009 File Type Settings. Find and open the settings file (*.sdlfiletype that you want to import). If the file types were exported from 2009 SP3, you will be prompted for the *.sdlftsettings after the *.sdlfiletype file has been processed.
  5. When prompted, you can specify an existing *.sdlftsettings file. If you don't specify one, the imported file type will not contain some settings (such as parser rules).
