Manual tasks for project package users

When you create a project package you are required to assign a task that the recipient of the package must complete. This is also called a manual task, and its purpose is to give instructions on what work needs to be completed.

If you send a translator a project package, you could assign the translator the Translate files task to indicate that they should translate the files in the package.

Manual task types

Trados Studio is shipped with two default tasks: Translate and Review. You can modify the descriptions of these tasks to provide additional instructions of what you want these tasks to accomplish. You can also create your own custom tasks.

Any tasks assigned to project packages that you have sent to other team members are listed in the Sent Tasks folder in the navigation tree in the Files view. Any tasks assigned to yourself are listed in the My Tasks folder in the navigation tree in the Files view. Select the task and the details on which files they pertain to are displayed on the right-hand pane.

Manual task components

A task includes three pieces of information: name, description and Editor configuration.

The Editor configuration refers to the layout of the windows in the Editor view when you have a file open. The different layouts used in each configuration are designed to facilitate the manual task you need to complete. For example, if you were assigned the Translate task, the Translation configuration is used. In this configuration, the Translation Results window is automatically displayed at the top of the application with the first match found in the file. The options available on the Home tab change so that you can select Confirm (Translated).
