Running batch tasks: Finalize

When you have finished working on your files, you should finalize them by running the Finalize task sequence. This process updates the main translation memories (TMs) and generates target translations. This task sequence would typically be performed after translation and review.

Procedure

  1. Decide whether you want to run the batch task sequence on an entire project or some project files:
    • To run batch task sequences on an entire project, go to the Projects view and select the project you want to run batch task sequences on.
    • To run batch task sequences on a file or a selection of files, go to the Projects view, select a project, and then go to the Files view and select the file or files you want to run batch task sequences on.
  2. On the Home tab, select Batch Tasks.
  3. Select Finalize.
  4. On the Batch Tasks page, consult the task/task sequence description. If you want to run another task, select it from the Task Sequence drop-down list.
  5. Select Next.
  6. On the Files page, all files for the active project are listed. Select the files on which you want the batch task to be run.
  7. Select Next.
  8. On the Settings page, specify the available settings:
    SelectTo

    Merge translation units

Replace with the latest translation only TUs that have matching context. All the other TUs with the same source segment remain unchanged. This is the default and recommended option for updating TMs.

    Add new translation units

Add translations that have the statuses below as new TUs to the TM. This means that the existing TUs in the TM are not overwritten.

    Overwrite existing translation units

Import the new TUs and overwrite the existing TUs in the TM.

    Leave translation units unchanged

Keep the existing TUs and not import the new ones.

For server-based TMs, this option is only available if the TM you are updating is available on an Trados GroupShare server, version 2014 SP2 or later.

    Keep most recent translation units

Keep the most recently changed TU. Trados Studio imports a TU whose source segment is identical to that of an existing TU only if the imported unit is newer than the existing one. If the change date of the TU for import is older than the change date of the existing one, Trados Studio does not replace the existing TU.

For server-based TMs, this option is only available if the TM you are updating is available on a Trados GroupShare server, version 2014 SP2 or later.

  9. Under Segment status specify which TUs are included in the TM update. Select the checkboxes corresponding to the TU status of choice. Three statuses are selected by default: Translated, Translation Approved and Signed off. The available TU statuses are:

    Not Translated

The segment target has not been translated or edited yet.

    Draft

The segment target may have been edited but it is not yet considered fully translated, or a translation memory match was applied to the segment but the segment text has been edited since then.

    Translated

The translation is confirmed as complete.

    Translation Rejected

The reviewer rejected the translation of the target segment.

    Translation Approved

The reviewer accepted the translation of the target segment.

    Sign-off Rejected

The reviewer rejected the translation of the segment during the sign-off process.

    Signed Off

The reviewer approved and signed-off the translation of the segment.

  10. Select TM User ID to edit your TM username. The TM User ID is used to indicate who added or last edited a translation memory unit. Make sure that you are using an ID by which the project manager can easily identify you before running the Update main translation memory or the Update project translation memories batch task.
  11. Select Next.
  12. When the selected task/task sequence is complete, if you want to view the task results, display them in a report or save them to a file. Select the task, and then select Task Results.
  13. Select Close when you have finished working with the task results. Any reports generated from the batch task are displayed in the Reports view.
