Search Details window

The Search Details window in the Translation Memories view is where you can:
  • Specify search criteria to find a particular set of translation units (TUs) in the active translation memory (TM). Only TUs that match the search conditions are displayed.
  • Create and apply filters to the active TM. Only the TUs that match the filter conditions are displayed.
  • Combine a filter with a search and apply them to the . Only TUs that match both the search and filter conditions are displayed.

Only TUs that match the filter and search criteria are displayed in the TM side-by-side editor window.

TM Filter

The filters available to be applied to the active TM. Select a filter to display the filter conditions in the boxes on the right.

To apply a filter to the active TM, select the filter from the drop-down list and select Perform Search.

If you want to combine the filter with a search, select the filter and then specify some search criteria in the Source Text and Target Text boxes, and select Perform Search.

Save Filter

Select this option to save the currently selected filter in the Search Details window. This filter will remain saved with the active translation memory, however if you remove the TM from the navigation pane , the associated filters will be deleted.

Unsaved filters are displayed with an asterisk.

Add Filter

Select this option to add a new filter in the Search Details window to the list of filters for the active TM and to display the filter in the Search Details window.

Delete Filter

Select this option to delete the selected filter in the Search Details window from the active TM.

Revert to Saved Filter

Select this option to disregard changes made to the selected filter in the Search Details window and to revert the filter back to its last saved state. If the filter has never been saved, this will have no effect.

Import Filters from File

Select this option to import filters from an external Microsoft Excel file.

Export Filters to File

Select this option to export filters to an external Microsoft Excel file.

Search Details Window
Filter Name

This is the name of the currently selected filter in the TM Filter box. Changing the name of the filter here automatically updates the filter name in the TM Filter box. To save the changed filter name, select Save Filter. When you create a new filter, a default filter name appears here. Change the default name to something meaningful if you decide to save the filter.

Source Text

The string of text you want to search for in the source language text of the active TM.

This string of text can be used to perform a search in conjunction with the selected filter. However, this search criteria is not saved with the selected filter.

Target Text

The string of text you want to search for in the target language text of the active TM.

This string of text can be used to perform a search in conjunction with the selected filter. However, this search criteria is not saved with the selected filter.

Search Type

Select the area of the TM in which you want to search:

  • Search Entire TM - The filter is applied to all TUs in the TM.
  • Search in Potential Duplicates Only - The filter is applied only to TUs that appear more than once in the TM.
Perform Search
Select this button to apply the search criteria, in the Source Text and Target Text boxes, and to apply the selected filter in the Search Details window to the active TM. Only TUs that match the search criteria and filter are displayed in the TM side-by-side editor window.
Case sensitive

When this option is selected, the search will distinguish between uppercase and lowercase. This applies to searching for text using the Source Text and Target Text boxes. If you are using conditions to apply filters, this option only applies when use a Match operator in a condition. When you use any other operator in a filter condition, it is always case insensitive.

Filter Conditions
Not

When this option in this column is selected, it negates the condition (it puts NOT in front of the condition). For example, the condition Project = 123 would become Not project = 123. This checkbox can be selected after you have added a condition to this filter.

Condition

This column displays the conditions that are contained in this filter for the selected TM.

AND/OR

If you create a filter that contains more than one condition, you can specify if you want the TUs to match all or some of the filter conditions by selecting AND or OR from the drop-down list in this column.

AND - Both conditions must be true.

OR - Either the first or the second condition must be true.

Use parentheses in this filter

When this option is selected, you can also use parentheses in your filter. Parentheses are used to group conditions which must be executed together.

Add

Select this option to add a new condition and open the Add Condition dialog.

Insert

Select this option to insert a new condition into the list, above an existing condition. First select the condition above which the new condition will be inserted, and then select this button to open the Add Condition dialog.

Edit

Select this option to edit the currently selected condition.

Delete

Select this option to delete the currently selected condition.
