Searching and filtering TMs

When you are performing maintenance on a translation memory (TM), you can quickly locate the translation units (TUs) that you want to edit by searching and applying filters to the active TM.

For example, you could run a search for duplicate TUs in order to find and delete the duplicates.

Search and filter TMs in the Search Details window of the Translation Memories view.

Searching the TM

You can run a quick, basic search on the TM. This allows you to enter a search string as your source criteria to search the text in the source and target segments of the TM. TUs that match the search criteria are displayed in the TM Side-by-Side Editor window. Search text is entered in the Source Text and Target Text boxes in the Search Details window. Search text is not saved with the associated TM. If you want to perform the same search at a later time, you must reenter the search criteria.

Filtering the TM

A filter allows you to perform more advanced searches in the TM for TUs that match the criteria of your filter. TUs that match the filter conditions are displayed in the TM Side by Side Editor window. Filters use search criteria based on the field values assigned to the TUs and the text in the source and target segments of a TU. For example, you could apply a filter to display only TUs that have a status of new. You can save a filter with the associated TM.

Combine searches and filtering

Searching the TM and applying a filter to the TM can be combined. By combining a search and filter you can refine your search results in the TM Side by Side Editor window. This allows you to search based on the text in the TUs and filter based on the field values assigned to the TUs.
