Specifying batch settings: Pre-translate Files
Use the Batch Processing > Pre-translate Files settings to specify how the translation memories (TMs) are applied to the project files when you run the Pre-translate batch task. This batch task is performed by default when you create a project.
Procedure
- Go to File > Options.
- In the Options dialog, select Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Batch Processing.
- Select Pre-translate Files.
- Under Pre-translate Settings, choose value for the Minimum match value. This is the match degree which must exist between a source file segment and a segment in the TM, in order for the segment-translation in the TM to be applied to the file segment.
Tip: You may want to set this at a higher figure than you would use when you apply TM resources interactively, during file translation. For example, you may want to pre-translate a file at a much higher value (for example, 100%) instead of the more usual figure of 75% used for interactive TM lookups. The selected value is inclusive, meaning that matches with your exact selected value are also applied to the file.
- Under Translation overwrite mode, select either of the available options:
- Keep existing translation, so that the existing translation is retained and Trados Studio ignores any match it finds for the segment in the TM.
- Overwrite existing translation if better match found, so that Trados Studio replaces the existing translation only if it finds a better translation in the TM. When you use this option, Trados Studio does not replace translations in segments which are set to Translated.
- Always overwrite existing translation, so that the existing translation is replaced with a translation taken from a TM. When you choose to overwrite existing translations, you can also enable this to overwrite unlocked PerfectMatch translations, by selecting Overwrite PerfectMatch translations. Locked segments are always ignored during Pre-translation and cannot be overwritten.
- Under After applying translations, decide what happens to the matches after translations are applied in the target segments:
- Select the Confirm 100% matches checkbox, so that 100% TM matches are automatically confirmed.
- Select the Lock 100% matches checkbox, so that, if the TM match found for the segment is a 100% match , the segment is automatically locked and cannot be edited during translation.
- Select the Confirm context matches checkbox, so that, if the TM match found for the segment is a context match , the segment is automatically confirmed.
- Select the Lock context matches checkbox, so that, if the TM match found for the segment is a context match , the segment is automatically locked and cannot be edited during translation.
- Select the Copy source to target if no match found, so that, if there is no match found in the TM for the source segment text in the file, the source text is copied to the target segment.
- Under When no match found, decide what happens to the text in the target segments, by choosing either of the available options:
- Select Leave target segment empty, so that no text is placed in the target segment.
- Select Copy source to target, so that the text from the source segment is copied to the target segment.
- Select Apply automated translation, so that, if none of your selected TMs generates a TM match that meets the Minimum match value, Trados Studio inserts translation results from the machine translation (MT) providers listed on the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page. This option is available only if you already added MT providers under Home tab > Project Settings > Language Pairs > [your language pair] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation.
