Specifying length verification for QA Checker
Use the settings to specify checks where the target segment text exceeds the permitted number of characters.
Before you begin
Make sure the QA Checker provider is enabled. To enable QA Checker, go to and select the QA Checker 3.0.
Procedure
- Choose where you want to specify the settings.
- To specify verification settings for your active project, go to Project Settings.
- To specify verification settings for your active project but only for a specific language pair, go to .
- To specify verification settings for all future projects, go to .
- To specify verification settings during batch tasks, go to the Projects view or the Files view, select Batch Tasks, choose a batch process and go to the Settings page.
- To specify verification settings in a project template, create a project template by going to the Projects view selecting Create Project Template from the Ribbon, then specify verification settings in the Project Template Settings dialog. You can also edit an existing project template.
- Select from the navigation tree.
- Select Length Verification from navigation.
- Select the Check length verification checkbox and, from the drop-down list on the right-hand side, choose a severity level if the check finds errors: Error, Warning and Note.
- Select one of the available options:
- Check if target segments are within file specific limits - Select this to check if the segment is within the length limits for that document structure type specified in the file filter for that document. These limits are accessible through the API and are also displayed for the user in the column document structure column as additional information. For example, by default the Microsoft Excel filter, specifies a length limit for the worksheet name of 31 as this is the maximum permitted length for the sheet name in Microsoft Excel.
- Check if target segments are longer than character count - Select this to check for segments where the number of characters exceeds a limit set by you. Under Contexts, select one of the available options:
- Check all segment contexts - Select this to enable verification of all segments in a file regardless of context. Every segment in the entire document structure is checked.
- Check the following contexts only (one per line) - If you only want to check certain segments checked based on their location in the document structure, you can specify here what exactly should be checked.
This option could be useful if you are translating a file which contains list items that must be below a certain length. To avoid a situation where every longer segment in the file would report an error, you would specify that only list items should be checked. The document structure location of each segment is displayed in the Document Structure column in the Editor window.
