Specifying word lists for QA Checker

Use the QA Checker 3.0 > Word List settings to specify word list checks. The word list check is a simple term verifier. It checks for words that must not be used or that are incorrectly formatted. Instead of using a termbase, users can enter a list of incorrect and correct word forms.

Before you begin

Make sure the QA Checker provider is enabled. To enable QA Checker, go to File > Options > Verification and select the QA Checker 3.0.

About this task

Let's say that the file is not supposed to contain the term "Website", and "web site" is the correct form. To enable this, the user can enter the word pair via the respective text fields.

Procedure

  1. Choose where you want to specify the settings.
    • To specify verification settings for your active project, go to Project Settings.
    • To specify verification settings for your active project but only for a specific language pair, go to Project Settings > [source language] - [target language] language pair.
    • To specify verification settings for all future projects, go to File > Options.
    • To specify verification settings during batch tasks, go to the Projects view or the Files view, select Batch Tasks, choose a batch process and go to the Settings page.
    • To specify verification settings in a project template, create a project template by going to the Projects view selecting Create Project Template from the Ribbon, then specify verification settings in the Project Template Settings dialog. You can also edit an existing project template.
  2. Decide whether you want to specify QA Checker settings:
    • For all language pair levels (system-wide) - Go to Verification > QA Checker 3.0. If you choose to specify QA Checker settings at system-wide level, you can specify all the available pages:
      • Segments Verification
      • Segments to Exclude
      • Inconsistencies
      • Punctuation
      • Numbers
      • Word List
      • Regular Expressions
      • Trademark Check
      • Length Verification
      • QA Checker Profiles
    • For individual language pairs - Go to Language Pairs > [language pair] > Verification > QA Checker 3.0. If you choose to specify QA Checker settings at individual-language pair level, you can specify ONLY the following available pages:
      • Punctuation
      • Numbers
      • Word List
      • Regular Expressions
      • QA Checker Profiles
  3. Select Word List from navigation.
  4. Select the Check word list checkbox, and in the drop-down list on the right-hand side select a severity level if the check finds the error: Error, Warning and Note.
  5. Use the Action area, to manage the word list:
    • Add words to the list - Enter values in the Wrong form and Correct form columns, and then select Action > Add item.
    • Update the word list - Select a word from the list, and then select Action > Update item. This action allows you to enter new values in the Wrong form and Correct form columns for the selected term.
    • Remove words from list - Select a word from the list, and then select Action > Remove item. This action removes individual words from the list.
    • Clear all words from list - Select Action > Clear items to delete all the words from the list without any notification.
  6. Select the Ignore case checkbox to ignore case when matching words in the translation files against the words in the Wrong form list.
  7. Select the Search whole words only checkbox if you only want exact matches for words in the Wrong form list to be found. For example, if you have the word "flex" in the Wrong form list and you select this option, the words "reflex" and "flexible" will not be found by the check.
