Subscription licensing
You can purchase Trados Studio Freelance and Trados Studio Professional on a subscription basis. The subscription license is held in your cloud account and Studio will be activated by logging into your account.
Subscription purchasing options
The following subscription licenses are available:
- Trados Studio Freelance: 1 named user can use Studio on 1 device at the same time or in the browser. This means you can install the Freelance version on your laptop and desktop computer, for instance, and use it on one device at a time (sequentially).
- Trados Studio Professional - Named Users: 1 named user can use Studio on 1 device or in the browser. The same comment as above applies.
- Trados Studio Professional - Concurrent Users: Users can access Studio on up to 5 devices, but only use one device at a time. In this scenario, the cloud account works like a license server where up to five users can freely check out one license at a time.

Multiple users and concurrent access
Subscriptions that enable multiple users to work on the same account also specify the number of concurrent users who can activate and use the latest version of Trados Studio at the same time. These subscription types can include Trados Studio Professional license seats that a specific number of users in a cloud account can access simultaneously. Depending on the subscription type, the administrator can also add other account members to give them access to the account. The resources that you have access to when connecting to a cloud account from Trados Studio or from a browser depend on the subscription type active on the cloud account. For a full list of features based on subscription type/offerings see this page.
Multiple cloud accounts
Your RWS ID can be linked to more than one cloud account. This happens when multiple project managers add you as a member of their cloud account and when you also have your own cloud account. When you sign into the cloud with your account credentials, Trados Studio shows all the cloud accounts that you are a member of.
You may find some of these cloud accounts also enable you to activate Trados Studio, this will depend on the subscription associated with that account. If Trados Studio is available for you to activate and use, in the product activation window, Subscription tab, you will see a message "This package entitles you to activate Trados Studio. Do you want to activate now? An Activate button will be displayed. Also if you have a subscription-based license, you will need to be signed in your own account in order to activate Trados Studio with the cloud subscription. You will have access to tasks assigned to you from other cloud account, but you should untick the option "Show projects for this account only" so you can see projects from the other accounts.
Troubleshoot connection problems
If you have followed the instructions above and cannot activate your license by connecting to your cloud account:
- Check that you are connected to the Internet.
- If you did not purchase your license yourself, contact your account administrator to make sure your cloud credentials are linked to the specified cloud account.
- For some users that have restrictive security settings such as additional firewalls, antivirus or proxy server exceptions might need to be put in place, see a full list in this article.
- When using a subscription license, you can go offline for a certain period of time. Be sure to re-connect to the Internet every few days so your subscription license can be refreshed.
Terminal Desktop Service and Corporate Domains
Subscriptions cannot be used to run Trados Studio when the Terminal Desktop Services role is installed on server operating systems. For this scenario, use a perpetual network license instead.
