Tag protection

Tag protection is designed to prevent you from deleting tags in the target document. It is important to replicate the tag content of the source file, as otherwise your target file may not be able to be properly recreated after translation.

By default, tag protection is turned off. When tag protection is turned off, you can delete inline tags. If you delete a tag that is part of a tag pair, a ghost tag is placed in your file to remind you that your tag pair is not complete.

When tag protection is turned on, Trados Studio protects inline tags and ensures that they stay in place during translation. To demonstrate this, go to Advanced tab > Protect Tags to turn tag protection on. Then place the cursor after any tag and press the [Backspace] key. The tag is not deleted.
