Translation Memories view> Home tab

The Home tab contains the most frequently used commands for working with translation memories (TMs) in Trados Studio.

The following table describes all the default groups and commands that are displayed on the Home tab in the Translation Memories view:

Project Settings

Select this option to display the Project Settings dialog for the active project.

Configuration

Cut

Select this option to cut selected text and put it on the clipboard.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+X

This option is available only when a TM is open.

Clipboard

Copy

Select this option to copy selected text to the clipboard.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+C

This option is available only when a TM is open.

Paste

Select this option to paste the contents of the clipboard into the segment at the current cursor point.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+V

This option is available only when a TM is open.

Open

Open Translation Memory

Select this option to open an existing TM.

The TM is added to the list of TMs in the navigation pane, and the contents of the TM are displayed in the TM side-by-side editor window.

The TM becomes the .

Tasks

Open Server-based Translation Memory

Select this option to open an existing server-based TM using the Open Server-based Translation Memory wizard.

The TM is added to the list of TMs in the navigation pane, and the contents of the TM are displayed in the TM side-by-side editor window.

The TM becomes the active TM.

Open Language Resource Template

Select this option to open an existing language resource template.

New

New Translation Memory

Select this option to create a new TM.

The opening page of the New Translation Memory wizard is displayed.

New Server-based Translation Memory

Select this option to create a TM on a server.

The opening page of the New Server-based Translation Memory wizard is displayed.

New Language Resource Template

Select this option to create a new language resource template.

The New Language Resource Template dialog is displayed.

Tasks Dialog Box Launcher

Select this option to open the Options dialog on the Translation Memories View page where you can configure how the TM units are displayed for editing in the Translation Memories view.

Upgrade Translation Memories

Select this option to upgrade your SDL Trados 2007 and SDLX TMs, so that they can be used in Trados Studio. The Upgrade Translation Memories wizard is displayed.

Align Documents

Align Single File Pair

Select this option to pair one source document to its corresponding target document and generate one single alignment result (*.sdlalign) file.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+M

Align Multiple Files

Select this option to align several pairs of files at the same time. This generates an alignment result (*.sdlalign) file from each pair of source and target file.

Trados Studio sends the TUs that result from all the generated alignment result files to the same TM.

Open Alignment

Select this option to open an alignment result file (*.sdlalign file) for review in the Alignment view. Trados Studio generates *.sdlalign files when you align single or multiple files and you choose to save the alignment result file for later review.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+A

Navigation

Previous Page

Select this option to display the previous page of TUs.

Next Page

Select this option to display the next page of TUs.

Perform Search

Select this option to search the active TM.

TUs that match the search criteria and selected filter in the Search Details window are displayed in the side-by-side editor.

Filters

Save

Select this option to save the filter that is currently displayed in the Search Details window.

Unsaved filters are displayed with an asterisk.

Add

Ensure you are viewing the Search Details window, then select this to add a new filter to the list of filters for the active translation memory.

The details for the new filter are displayed in the Search Details window.

Delete

Select this option to delete a filter from the active TM.

Revert to Saved

Select this option to undo any changes made to the filter since it was last saved.

If the filter has never been saved, this command has no effect.

Import

Select this option to import filters for use with the active TM.

The Open Translation Memory Filters dialog is displayed. Use this to select the required *.sdltm.filters file.

Export

Select this option to export the filters that exist for the active TM.

You can then import these filters for use in another TM.

The Export Filters dialog is displayed.

Commit Changes

Select this option to apply any pending changes to the TUs in the active TM.

Save

Mark TU for Deletion

Select this option to flag the currently selected TU in the TM side-by-side editor window for deletion. When you commit (save) the changes to the TM, the flagged TUs are deleted from the TM.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+D

Discard TU changes

Select this option to discard changes that you are have made but have not committed.

If no TUs are selected, this command discards all changes to the TM.

If any TUs are selected, this command discards changes to those units only.

Changes that are discarded are:

  • Text changes
  • Assignments of custom field values

Find

Find Next

Select this option to find text in the page currently displayed in the active TM or in a selection. The Find and Replace dialog is displayed.

Shortcut commands:

Press Ctrl+F to display the Find and Replace dialog.

Press F4 to find the next instance of your search text entered in the Find and Replace dialog during the current session.

This option is available only if a TM is open.

Editing

Find Previous

Select this option to find text in the page currently displayed in the active TM or in a selection. The Find and Replace dialog is displayed.

Shortcut commands:

Press Ctrl+F to display the Find and Replace dialog.

Press Shift+F4 to find a previous instance of your search text entered in the Find and Replace dialog during the current session.

This option is available only if a TM is open.

Replace

Select this to find and replace text in the active file, the page currently displayed in the active TM or in a selection. The Find & Replace dialog is displayed.

Shortcut command: Ctrl+Shift+F

This option is available only if a TM is open.
