When you translate a file, the Translation Results window prompts you to upgrade any file-based translation memories (TMs) for which reindexing and fragment alignment are available. You must upgrade such TMs to get the most updated translation hits.
About this task
Important: To benefit from the latest TM capabilities: more accurate context matches, full or half-width fuzzy matches, optimal fragment alignment and reindexing, you MUST upgrade your TM. The TMs which require an upgrade are identified by the non-upgraded TM icon (a warning triangle).
Important: If you want to use TMs, which were created in an earlier Trados Studio version (these are typically the ones created in 2015 and 2017 versions), in a more recent Trados Studio version (these are typically 2017 SR1, 2019, 2019 SR1 versions or higher), you MUST upgrade them. Earlier TMs will be recognized and read by Trados Studio, but you will not be able to use them to their fullest potential.
Procedure
- Go to the Projects view and select the project you want to work on.
- Go to the Files view and double-click the file you want to work on.
- In the Editor view, place your cursor in a target segment.

- On the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page, select the TM which requires upgrading.

The TM is automatically updated.

Restriction: Only regular file-based TMs can be upgraded. You cannot upgrade AnyTMs.
