In this task, we will use the GPT-4o connection we created earlier as a translation companion on any file opened in the Studio Editor. The translation companion functionality can be useful when you want an extra "pair of AI eyes" in your translation work. This can help unblock you when you have a difficult translation or just in general help with your creativity and overall productivity. We will explain how to use it with the help of the sample project shipped with Trados Studio, using the English-German version of the photo printer sample document.
Procedure
- On the Project view, activate the sample project in Trados Studio.
The project name appears in bold.
- Double-click on the project name
This opens the Files view for the project.
- From the Files view, open the English-German version of the sample photo printer document.
The document opens in the Editor.
- Go to segment 2. This will display a 91% fuzzy match from the translation memory. Let's assume that we would like to get some alternative translations for this TM match.
- While in segment 2, open AI Assistant. If it is not visible, use View > AI Assistant to display it. We recommend to move and dock the AI Assistant view part at the right-hand side of the Editor, so that you can permanently display its suggestions there.
- On the AI Assistant view part, from the Prompts drop-down list, select the Multiple translations prompt. We are now ready to use this prompt to get some alternative translations for segment 2 from the LLM.
- Click the magnifiying glass icon to start the search in the LLM.
After a few seconds, the LLM will return with three suggestions. Review the suggestions.
- Click the Apply Translation Result icon next to the suggestion you wish to use.
This will insert the suggestion into the target segment 2.
If you wish to play more with these prompts, feel free to select a different prompt and repeat the search. You can also add your own prompts. This is described under Working with prompts.
