Viewing messages

You can view the error messages generated during processes such as file verification. The messages are displayed in the Messages window, of the Editor view. You can open the Messages window any time, to view a list of error messages.

About this task

Error messages can be classed as:

  • Errors
  • Warnings
  • Notes

By default, all severity levels are shown in the Messages window. However, there are toggle buttons for each severity level which allow you to display or hide messages for that severity level. For example, to hide any messages classed as errors, select the Errors button. To display the messages again, select the Errors button again.

If the error message relates to an issue that occurred within your document, you can double-click the error message to jump to that location in your file.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Projects view and select the project you want to work on.
  2. Go to the Files view and double-click the file you want to work on.
  3. Display the Messages window:
    • In the Editor view, select the Messages tab.
    • In the Editor view, go to the View tab, and in the Information group, select Messages.

What to do next

By default, the window shows error messages for the active file only. To see messages that were generated for all open files, select the Show Messages for Active Document Only button. Select the button again to switch back to showing messages for the active file only.
