Working with prompts

Learn how you can use the existing prompts or create new ones to return optimized translations.

About this task

Prompts can be viewed, edited and created from the Prompts tab in the Settings dialog box of the AI Assistant. These prompts can be used both in the translation companion as well as the translation provider ways of working with the AI Assistant. In this example, we assume that you use AI Assistant in its capacity as a translation companion.

Procedure

Follow these steps to work with existing prompts or create new ones:

  1. After opening any file in the Studio Editor, go to the AI Assistant as described in Using AI Assistant as a Translation Companion.
    • To work with an existing prompt, select it from the Prompt drop-down list. This prompt will now be used to generate translation suggestoins in the Translation Suggestions list.
    • To edit an existing prompt, click the cog wheel icon to access the settings. The Settings dialog box is displayed. Select the Prompts tab. This will display a list of all prompts with their name, prompt instruction and whether it includes a comment together with the suggestion. Click on any prompt you wish to edit, and click Edit. This will display the Edit Prompt dialog box where you can edit the prompt's name, the instruction text and whether or not to include a comment with the returned translation.
    • To create a new prompt, click the cog wheel icon to access the settings. The Settings dialog box is displayed. Select the Prompts tab. This will display a list of all existing prompts. Click the Add button to create a new prompt. This will display the Add Prompt dialog box where you can specify the prompt's name, the instruction text and whether or not to include a comment with the returned translation.
  2. Confirm your changes with OK. The changes will be applied.
    You can now select the new or modified prompt from the drop-down list in the Editor. You can now select the new or modified prompt from the drop-down list in the Editor. Translation suggestions will be returned following the prompt instructions you created.

Example: Creating a new prompt that performs a transcreation task

Let's assume you wish to create a new prompt that performs a transcreation task. You would like to use this prompt for translating movie titles.

  1. After opening any file in the Studio Editor, go to the AI Assistant as described earlier in Using AI Assistant as a Translation Companion.
  2. To create a new prompt, click the cog wheel icon to access the settings.
    The Settings dialog box is displayed.
  3. Select the Prompts tab. This will display a list of all existing prompts.
  4. Click the Add button to create a new prompt. The Add Prompt dialog box is displayed.
    • As prompt name, enter Transcreation of movie titles.
    • As prompt text, enter Translate this source using creative transcreation techniques. Provide three alternatives.
    • Click the Include Translation Comment check box, and enter the text Include a meaningful comment on your transcreation effort and explain why you came up with it.
  5. Confirm with OK. You have now created a prompt that will attempt a transcreation of your source segments. Try this out on a document that has movie titles such as "Die Hard" or others with specific translations in your language.
    You can choose any new prompts both when using AI Assistant as a translation companion or translation provider. This gives you maximum flexibility for adapting translations both upstream in pre-translation as well as downstream in the Studio Editor during interactive translation.
