Cloud projects

Trados Team enables users to create cloud projects and cloud resources in order to produce the most reliable localized content.

Projects enable users to manage and implement the localization flow of their content end to end.

Project prerequisites

As Administrator, Lead Project Manager or Project Manager, you should prepare all the components needed for creating the projects themselves. RWS recommends that you perform the entire set of project prerequisites before you set out on creating projects, as this saves a lot of time and energy in the long run. Set up you project prerequisites once and reuse them several times with or without further adjustments.

Before starting to use Trados Team, it is good practice to:
  1. Add customers - Customers are the ones who need to have their content localized. You store customers in locations, which are like folders or work spaces. You will store all your translation resources and all your administrative resources in locations, which means that one customer will have all its associated resources in one centralized work space.
  2. Add users - Users are the people responsible for performing the project tasks from inception to completion. Users can work on tasks based on the permissions. Users receive the appropriate permissions in two ways: users can be part of a group and they inherit the role(s) associated with the group OR users can be assigned specific service types from a predefined list (e.g project planning, translation, DTP and so on).
  3. Configure translation resources - Create cloud Translation Memories, Termbases, Language Processing Rules, Field Templates. At this stage, you can also import the data stored in your local Translation Memories or Termbases.
  4. Configure administrative resources - Create and specify Workflows, File Type Configurations, Custom Fields, Project Settings.
  5. Create project templates - Project Templates are administrative resources which bring together a Workflow, a File Type Configuration, a set of Project Settings. You can create projects starting off from a project template, which means that the project creation wizard is automatically populated with all the resources you need.

Project elements

A localization project consists of:
  1. The files which need to be localized
  2. The files which support localization activities (reference files)
  3. The translation resources which ensure leverage from previous translations: Translation Memories, Termbases (Terminology), Machine Translation
  4. The management resources which ensure the seamless project rollout: Workflow, File Type Configuration, Project Settings

Project processes

The work required for the creation, planning, completion and delivery of a localization project is divided into tasks. Administrators, Lead Project Managers or Project Managers assign the tasks to users or groups of users who accept or reject the tasks. After users complete their tasks, the work moves on to the next steps of the localization workflow. When everything is completed, the localized content can be delivered.

Project creation in Trados Team

Before any project process can be rolled out, you must create projects either from scratch or from template. SDL recommends that you create a project template as project prerequisite. Designing and using project templates saves a lot of time and energy in the long run. Create project templates once and reuse them several times with or without ad hoc adjustments.

When creating projects from template, administrators and project managers use the wizard to:
  1. Enter general details: project name, project location, project description.
  2. Select a project template and have the wizard automatically populated with the following information (which you can adjust, if needed): File Type Configurations, Language Resources, Workflows, Settings.
  3. Upload the project files.
When creating projects from scratch, administrators and project managers use the wizard to:
  1. Enter general details: project name, project location, project description.
  2. Choose one of the resources you configured as project prerequisite: File Type Configurations, Language Resources, Workflows, Settings.
  3. Upload the project files.
  4. Create the resources you need (if you did not create them beforehand as project prerequisite): File Type Configurations, Language Resources, Workflows, Settings.

Project creation in Trados Customer Portal

Customers can submit projects via Trados Customer Portal based on the project templates created by administrators or project managers in Trados Team. The submission process is very easy. Customers need to provide some project details, select a template, provide the source - target language combination, and add the files that need to be localized.

If customers do not purchase Trados Customer Portal, they simply contact an Trados Team administrator or project manager who will set up everything for them. In this case, customers send the administrator or project manager the files and the localization requirements.
