Creating projects with the same source and target in Trados Customer Portal

When you create a project which have the same source and target language, you actually create a restricted project which prevents the other personas working on your project from downloading the project files locally.

Before you begin

Make sure that your administrator, lead project manager, or project manager have created project templates which have the same source and target language. Make sure that you know the location and name of these project templates.

About this task

Check this topic for a comparative view of restricted and unrestricted (regular) projects.

Projects which have the same source language and target language are marked as restricted projects. Projects with the same source and target language are not supported in Trados Studio.

You can create projects with the same source and target language. Such projects are automatically marked as restricted projects. If the project has several target languages, and one of the target languages is the same as the source language, the entire project is marked as a restricted project, which means that users who do not have the appropriate permissions are not able to download project files for any language pair.

Use case 1

You want to optimize the source content for regular translation. Therefore, you first create a project with the same source and target language where you perform optimization and rewriting (e.g. grammar, terminology consistency, typo correction, simplified language, gender neutral language etc.). You then create a regular translation project which is already optimized for cost, terminology, or tone.

Use case 2

You want to optimize the source content for Machine Translation in order to minimize post-editing. Therefore, you first create a project with the same source and target language where you curate the content. You then create a regular translation project which is already optimized for Machine Translation.

Use case 3

You want to offer editing or review services for text written by non-native speakers. Therefore, you create a project with the same source and target language where you correct mistakes and increase the clarity of the text.

Procedure

  1. Follow the usual steps for project creation.
  2. Select a project template which is configured to support the same source and target languages. Projects which have the same source and target language have the download file restriction enabled by default.
Projects which have the same source and target language, similar to restricted projects, have a lock in front of them.
