Creating projects with the same source and target languages from Trados Team

When you create a project which has the same source and target language, you actually create a restricted project which prevents other personas from downloading files locally.

About this task

Check this topic for a comparative view of restricted and unrestricted projects.

Projects which have the same source language and target language are marked as restricted projects. Starting with the 2022 SR2 Trados Studio release, you can select some multi-source cloud project resources (translation engines) in the Trados Studio cloud creation wizard.

You can create projects with the same source and target language. Such projects are automatically marked as a restricted projects. If the project has several target languages, and one of the target languages is the same as the source language, the entire project is marked as a restricted project, which means that users who do not have the appropriate permissions are not able to download project files for any language pair.

Projects created with the same source and target language require the following resources to be configured with the same source and target language: workflows, TMs, translation engines, pricing models, VOTs, users.

Use case 1

You want to optimize the source content for regular translation. Therefore, you first create a project with the same source and target language where you perform optimization and rewriting (e.g. grammar, terminology consistency, typo correction, simplified language, gender neutral language etc.). You then create a regular translation project which is already optimized for cost, terminology, or tone.

Use case 2

You want to optimize the source content for Machine Translation in order to minimize post-editing. Therefore, you first create a project with the same source and target language where you curate the content. You then create a regular translation project which is already optimized for Machine Translation.

Use case 3

You want to offer editing or review services for text written by non-native speakers. Therefore, you create a project with the same source and target language where you correct mistakes and increase the clarity of the text.

Procedure

  1. Follow the usual steps for project creation.
  2. Select the same source and target language.
The Restrict file downloads check box is enabled automatically, and you cannot disable it.

Results

Projects which have the same source and target language, similar to restricted projects, have a lock in front of them
