Creating TMs

Create TMs to store your translated content and reuse it.

Before you begin

You create TMs based on language processing rules (rules gathering information about recognizable elements, about situations when several words are treated as one word, about customized language resources) and field templates (text, list, date/time, number). There are default language processing rules and default field templates for each customer. However, if you need further customization, make sure that you edit the language processing rule and field templates you intend to use.

About this task

When you create a new complex resource which is based on other component resources, you can filter the component resources by two criteria: Current folder and above (default) and Current folder. Using the filtering criteria enables you to see and use exactly the resources you own or have inherited.

You associate existing field templates and language processing rules to TMs when you create TMs. When you select existing field templates and language processing rules, use the available criteria for quick and accurate navigation.

You can configure TMs with the same source and target language. When this TM is included in a project which has the same source and target language, the project is automatically marked as a restricted project.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Trados Team (by accessing this link: http://languagecloud.sdl.com/lc).
  2. Go to the Resources view.
  3. Select Linguistic Resources > Translation Memories.
  4. Select New Translation Memory.
  5. Enter the following details:
    1. Enter a name for your TM.
    2. (Optional) Enter a copyright.
    3. Select a location for your TM.
    4. (Optional) Enter a description detailing the context where your TM is used or any other relevant information.
  6. Under Languages:
    1. Select the source language column and choose a language from the list. Select the target language column and choose one or more languages from the list. Select new entry plus sign. Repeat this step to add more language pairs. You can configure TMs with the same source and target language. When this TM is included in a project which has the same source and target language, the project is automatically marked as a restricted project.
    2. In the Language Processing Rules box, select a language processing rule.
    3. In the Field Template box, select a field template.
  7. Select Create.
