When are new file versions generated?
File translation is a process which follows the steps specified in a workflow. Here are the basics:
- Files move from one workflow step to another.
- Workflows consist of Human steps and Automated steps.
- There are several types of workflows you can choose from, each with a different sequence of steps. Access this section to familiarize yourself with the workflow steps.
For a given file, a new file version is generated:
- When the file moves to the following Human step (Human task) in the workflow:
- These tasks always generate a new file version: Translation, Linguistic Review , Implement Linguistic Review
- These steps generate a new file version if you replace the existing file: Engineering (if you replace the source or target file), Final Check (if you replace the target file), Error (for example, the File Type Detection error task enables you to replace a file).
- When the file moves to the following Automated steps (Automated tasks): File Format Conversion, Copy Source to Target, Translation Memory Matching, Machine Translation, Target File Generation.
What are the details of a file version?
Select a file, to access its versions in the File Versions panel. You will find the following details:
- The file version number
- The workflow step (task) which triggered the generation of a new file version
- The date and time when the file version was generated. Important! This is not the date and time when the file version was last saved!
- The Download File Version button - Let's say that you want to download version 5 (V5) of a file. When you click Download File Version next to V5, you get the latest changes made on V5.
