Getting started

As lead project manager, you can configure, create and monitor anything at any time. However, there are several actions you must perform beforehand, so that project managers can carry out their activity. To start using Trados, consult the Getting Started section.

Some of the actions you perform as lead project manager can also be performed by project managers, namely the following steps below: 1, 5, 6, 7.

As lead project manager, you must perform the following steps below, before project managers start working: 2, 3, 4.

This is the sequence of actions you should follow as lead project manager:
  1. Become familiar with the which control what stages your translation can go through. Workflow stages consist of a mixture of Automated tasks or Human tasks. You must assign users to all the Human tasks in your workflow.
  2. Add customers. Customers request translations and review the translation once it is completed.
  3. Set up customer requesters.
  4. Set up users for group assignment or for individual assignment. Depending on the workflow stages the project will go through, you must set up all or some of the following user personas: project managers, translators, engineers or DTP engineers.
  5. Set up linguistic resources: translation memories (TMs), termbases, machine translation (MT), translation engines. You can work on setting up termbases yourself, but you would normally defer this responsibility to terminologists.
  6. Set up workflows.
  7. Set up file type configurations.
