Project due dates and schedule templates
The project due date is influenced by whether the project includes a schedule template or not.
Scenario 1: Creating a project without a schedule template
If you create a project which does not include a schedule template, you can keep the project due date generated automatically by the system or you can change it manually.
Scenario 2: Creating a project with a schedule template
There are 3 possible cases.
Case 1: You keep the project due date as specified in the schedule template
- Save the project, and start it at a later date, in this case the actual due date = the project start date + the project duration specified in the schedule template.
- Start the project. In this case, the actual due date = the estimated due date.
Case 2: You edit the project due date which is specified in the schedule template
After you select the schedule template during project creation, the system automatically displays the duration and the estimated due date for the project. However, you want to adjust the project due date manually. To do this, select the Specify Project due date check box, and enter a date. The schedule template still applies, but the project due date you specified manually overrides the project duration in the schedule template.
Case 3: You edit the project due date which is specified in the schedule template, but then you revert to the due date specified in the schedule template
You made the changes as per case 2 above, but you realize you made a mistake and would like to revert to the project due date. To do this, clear the Specify Project due date check box, and select a schedule template from the list.
