Resource setup by project managers from different locations
Your role (and your permissions) control the degree to which you can manage (view, add, edit, delete) the resources you have access to. The higher you are positioned in the hierarchy, the more resources you can manage. As project manager in the Root folder (user included in the Project Manager group in the Root folder) you can do more things than a project manager in a specific customer folder (user included in the Project Manager group in a customer folder). The location you store your resources in impacts the way users can see, use, edit, delete resources.
This topic explores the impact of location on resources and projects for the following users:
- As project manager in the Root folder (user included in the Project Manager group in the Root folder)
- As project manager in a specific customer folder (user included in the Project Manager group in a customer folder)
Creating resources and projects (all folders are public)
- I am a project manager located in the Root folder. I can create resources (the ones I have permissions for) and projects in any location I want (Root folder, Customers folder, customer specific folders).
- I am a project manager located in a customer folder. I can create resources (the ones I have permission for) and projects only in the customer folder where I am located (my folder) and in my customer folder's children (my descendants).
Editing and deleting resources and projects
- I am a project manager located in the Root folder. I can edit/delete the resources (the ones I have permissions for) and the projects from any location I want (Root folder, Customers folder, customer specific folders).
- I am a project manager located in a customer folder. I can edit the resources (the ones I have permission for) and the projects only from the customer folder where I am located (my folder) and from my customer folder's children (my descendants).
Copying resources
- I am a project manager located in the Root folder. I can copy the resources (translation engines, workflows, file type configurations, project templates) from any location I want (Root folder, Customers folder, customer specific folders). I can save these resources to a location of my choice.
- I am a project manager located in a customer folder. I can copy the resources (translation engines, workflows, file type configurations, project templates) from the Root folder, from the customer folder where I am located (my customer folder), from my customer folder's children (my descendants). I can save these resources in my customer folder and in my customer folder's children.
Using resources to create other project resources and projects
- I am a project manager located in the Root folder:
- I can use the resources from the Root folder to create other resources (e.g. project templates) or projects in the Root folder.
- I can use the resources from a customer folder and the resources the folder inherits from above to create other resources or projects in that customer folder.
- I am a project manager located in a customer folder:
- I can use the resources from the customer folder where I am located (my folder), the ones I inherit from the Root folder or parent folder, but not the ones from my customer folder's children to create other resources or projects in my customer folder.
- I can use the resources from my customer folder's children and the ones the children inherit from above to create other resources or projects in my customer folder's children.
Viewing and editing projects
- I am a project manager located in the Root folder. I can see and edit the projects from any location I want (Root folder, Customers folder, customer specific folders).
- I am a project manager located in a customer folder. I can see and edit the projects only from the customer folder where I am located (my customer folder) and from my customer folder's children (my descendants).
What happens when a folder is private?
- If you store resources in the Root folder, users from all folders can see and use the Root folder resources.
- If you store resources in public customer folders, all Root users and all the customer folder users can see and use these resources.
- If you store resources in private customer folders, all Root users and the customer folder users (everyone who is above) can see and use these resources, but the users from the children of private customer folders cannot see and cannot use these resources.
